For food contact, the question is not whether the part is black enough. It is whether the pigment and carrier are cleared for the contact condition, and whether you can prove it.

What “food grade” actually changes

Food contact is not a stronger version of the standard grade. It is a different formulation route, and the differences are specific:

Every component has to be on a positive list. The carrier resin, the carbon black and any additive must be permitted for food contact under the framework you are selling into — EU 10/2011 in Europe, FDA expectations in the US — and permitted for the contact condition your product will actually see.
Contact conditions are part of the specification. A grade acceptable for dry food at room temperature is not automatically acceptable for fatty food at high temperature. Temperature, fat content and contact time change the migration question entirely. Tell us what the film or part will hold, not just that it touches food.
Migration is measured on the finished article, not the masterbatch. A masterbatch can be compliant and a finished film can still fail, because migration depends on the total formulation, the let-down ratio and the thickness. Ask for the documentation trail rather than a single certificate.
Odour and taint matter as much as migration figures. A grade can be numerically compliant and still taint a packaged product. For anything with a long shelf life, ask about odour testing on the finished article.

Questions buyers ask

Is this certified food grade?

We supply masterbatch using food-contact-cleared carbon black and carriers aligned to EU 10/2011 and FDA requirements, with a declaration of compliance per lot. Final compliance of the finished article is always confirmed by your own migration testing on the real part.

Can you give us migration data?

We supply samples and the raw-material declarations you need to run migration testing on your finished article. We do not invent test results — if we have not tested a specific condition, we say so.

Can we order a trial lot before we qualify the grade?

Yes, and that is the normal route for food contact. Trial lots start at 1 ton per specification, so you can run migration and sensory testing before you qualify the material.

How fast can we get a sample?

Typically 5–10 days to most markets, with the compliance documentation attached.
