For food packaging film that must block light — dairy lamination, vitamin-sensitive content, opaque pouches. 40% carbon black on a food-contact PE system: it stops the light that drives rancidity and vitamin loss, with migration statements available on request.
Typical values from in-house QC. We confirm the contractual spec against your order, with a batch CoA on every shipment.

Where AM4018 shows up in our export business, and why buyers pick it.
Opaque pouches and laminations for content that degrades under light — dairy, fats, vitamins.
Runs as the buried black layer in multilayer food structures.
Low-temperature flexibility retained through the carrier system.
Consistent jetness lot to lot, with batch CoA per shipment.
The formulation logic behind the spec sheet — what the chart does not say.
Why light blocking matters: light-driven oxidation is what turns fats rancid and destroys vitamins A and D in transparent packaging. A full-black laminate layer at 2–4% let-down of AM4018 stops that at the film stage — no secondary wrapper needed.
The 19% ash ceiling is a compromise grade: enough CaCO₃ to keep cost competitive for volume packaging, low enough for a food-contact formulation with migration documentation.
MFR above 10 keeps it running on standard LLDPE/LDPE film windows without line changes.
AM4018 is the film side of the food-contact pair. The requirement it solves is light, not just colour.
| Grade | Carbon black | Carrier system | Let-down | FOB price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AM4018 | 40% ±2 | PE + CaCO₃ (food-contact system) | 2–4% | USD 2.20–4.60 | Light-shielding food packaging film, dairy lamination, opaque pouches |
| AM3910 | 40% ±2 | PE + CaCO₃ (food-contact system) | 2–3% | USD 2.20–4.60 | Rigid food-contact articles: tableware, meal boxes, cutlery |
| N4066 | 46% ±2 | PE (unfilled) | 1–1.5% | USD 2.00–4.20 | Agricultural and industrial thin film — not a food-contact grade |
Light shielding is a measurable requirement. Treat it as one.
For dairy, vitamin-sensitive contents and opaque pouches, what protects the product is the light that does not get through — measured, not eyeballed. Specify the transmission figure you need and dose to it; a visually black film can still pass more light than the product tolerates.
Being opaque says nothing about migration. The food-contact basis is the carrier and additive system plus the finished-article assessment. Keep the two conversations separate and document both.
Hot fill, retort and frozen conditions each set a different assessment basis. Tell us the fill temperature and the process before the trial, so the material you test is the material you will run.
Food-contact statements and migration test summaries on request. Tell us your target market (EU 10/2011, FDA, GB) and we attach the statement to the quote.
It is normally run as a buried or inside layer. For skin-contact or outside-layer use, ask and we confirm the grade variant for your structure.
At this ash level, seal behavior in buried layers is unaffected. If AM4018 runs near sealant layers, we confirm window data for your structure.
Use the form below or email Zoe Lin with your polymer, process and target. The full AM4018 data sheet goes out the same day, and a free 2–5 kg line-trial sample follows — produced under the same compounding conditions as commercial batches.
On the finished structure, at the wavelength range that matters to your product, using your own or a contracted laboratory method. We will supply material and the material data; the finished-structure measurement belongs with the packaging converter and the brand owner.
Yes — a black functional layer inside a co-ex structure is a normal use for a light-shielding grade. Send the layer arrangement and thickness and we will recommend a let-down for that layer rather than for the whole structure.
Both use a food-contact PE + CaCO₃ system, which is why the two grades read similarly on paper. They differ in the balance tuned for rigid moulding versus film extrusion — that is why one cannot simply be substituted for the other on the line.
Tell us your polymer, process and target carbon black in the part. We reply with the AM4018 spec sheet, a let-down recommendation and a firm factory quote.
AM4018 is the food-contact light-shielding grade. Every lot ships with a batch CoA and its SGS report number. This is the lab that issues them.
