When the pipe must get its entire UV protection from the masterbatch: ~45% carbon black on a clean PE carrier, moisture below 0.50%. One grade carries color, opacity and weathering — reducing or removing the separate UV additive package.
Typical values from in-house QC. We confirm the contractual spec against your order, with a batch CoA on every shipment.

Where H6045 shows up in our export business, and why buyers pick it.
Above-ground pipe where the black layer is the UV shield.
Season-long sunlight exposure with no requalification between crops.
Full-black membrane where carbon black is both color and UV blocker.
Outdoor ducting that weathers for decades.
The formulation logic behind the spec sheet — what the chart does not say.
Carbon black is still the best UV blocker known for polyolefins — well-dispersed 20 nm particles absorb and convert UV while also screening the polymer behind them. At ~45% loading in the masterbatch, 2–3% let-down puts roughly 1% carbon in the pipe wall: the classic weathering dose.
The carrier is a clean, unfilled PE grade because dispersion quality decides UV performance — agglomerates are weak points in the shield. This is one place where ash is not a cost lever.
Used together with 6045: 6045 trims the pre-colored body compound, H6045 carries the UV-critical skin.
H6045 is the grade you choose when the formulation must not carry a separate UV additive.
| Grade | Carbon black | Carrier system | Let-down | FOB price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| H6045 | ~45% | PE (unfilled, clean) | 2–3% | USD 2.30–4.80 | Pipe drawing its entire UV protection from the masterbatch |
| 508C | 13% ±2 | PE + CaCO₃ (~56%) | 3–6% | USD 1.20–2.80 | Buried non-pressure drainage pipe |
| 6045 | 10% ±2 | PE (unfilled) | ~1% trim, 4–6% in natural PE | USD 1.60–3.40 | Potable-water supply pipe and certified black compounds |
A high-load clean grade behaves differently from a filled one in three specific ways.
The whole point of a ~45% clean grade at 2–3% is that the carbon black carries the UV duty. Leaving the previous UV package in place adds cost, can interact with the dispersion, and gives you a formulation nobody has tested. Either the masterbatch carries UV, or the additive does — pick one and document it.
Unfilled grades at this concentration need real dispersive work. On a short, low-compression screw you will see undispersed specks and filtration pressure climbing over a long run. H6045 performs best where the screw has the length and the mixing elements to match the loading.
H6045 costs more per kilo than a 13% grade and is cheaper per finished tonne of protected pipe, because 2–3% does the work of a much larger dose of a lean grade and you are not shipping carrier resin across an ocean to do nothing. Always compare on cost per finished kilometre.
In many black pipe systems, yes — 2–3% let-down delivers the carbon level that does the UV work. For warranty-critical applications we review your full formulation before you drop the additive.
This grade is quoted against the customer line (pipe, membrane or drip tape), and the flow window is confirmed with the order. Full TDS with your line profile comes with the quote.
Yes — drip tape and micro-irrigation lines are a core use, exposed to full sun for entire seasons.

Carbon black at a properly dispersed 2–2.5% in the finished pipe is the classic UV protection route for buried PE. H6045 is formulated so that the recommended let-down lands in that window in a typical pipe compound. Confirm the target against your own standard — some specifications name a minimum carbon black percentage in the finished product.
Melt flow rate for H6045 is provided on request, because it is tuned to the let-down you intend to run rather than fixed to a catalogue number. Tell us the base resin and the pipe wall thickness and we will send the value that applies.
Yes. Every lot ships with a CoA carrying the standard values, and we can add the specific tests your specification calls for as a documented line item.
Tell us your polymer, process and target carbon black in the part. We reply with the H6045 spec sheet, a let-down recommendation and a firm factory quote.
H6045 is the high-load UV grade for pipe and outdoor applications. Carbon loading for UV stability is decided at the dosing point — this is that point.
